Open House Day - Tag der offenen Tür
European Heritage Days

As last year ZMO organizes its open house day in cooperation with the Historische Kommission zu Berlin. Visitors get an insight into the research of the two institutions in different lectures under the title "City - Power - Pomp". Additionally the program offers a concert by the cross-repertoire band Mückenheimer from Potsdam, a children program with a reading from Ferdowsis famous "Shahnameh", street food by REFUEAT, as also guided tours through ZMO's working place, the more than 100 years old Mittelhof, build by famous German architect Hermann Muthesius. The open house day takes place in coordination with the Berlin-wide Open Heritage Day in the framework of the European Heritage Days.

The Cinema of Med Hondo
Film Screenings, exhibition & workshop

"Run, comrade, the old world is after you" is the English translation of the title of this program, which stems from one of the slogans of the French '68 movement. This slogan found its way in turn into SOLEIL Ô (1969), probably the most well known film by Med Hondo, the avant-garde filmmaker, actor, and voiceover artist who was born in Mauretania and has been living in the Paris banlieue for more than 50 years now. In his lengthy career as an independent filmmaker, Med Hondo hasn't just made films that reveal the political topicality of African and diaspora history and dared to make artistic breakthroughs in the process He has also succeeded in setting cinema itself in motion and developing alternatives to European and American production and distribution structures...

Call for Applications: 2 Postdoc Fellowships for 12 Month
Closing Date: 30 September 2017

The Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (BGSMCS) invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships for the calendar year 2018. The BGSMCS is interested in attracting outstanding postdoctoral researchers who are engaged in research projects relevant to its research focus. The call is open for recent postdocs (not more than four years after submission of thesis) in the humanities and the social sciences.
