Petra Heidrich
Petra Heidrich wurde am 13. November 1940 in Berlin geboren.
Sie studierte von 1959 bis 1965 Indologie am Institut für
Indienkunde der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und arbeitete von
1965 bis 1973 als wissenschaftliche Assistentin am Institut für
Orientforschung der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR in
Berlin. Von 1973 bis 1981 lebte sie mit ihrer Familie in Indien und
war von 1973 bis 1975 „bona fide research scholar“ am Department of
History der Rabindra Bharati University in Kalkutta.
Ihre Promotion zum Dr. phil. schloss Frau Heidrich am 12. Juli 1983
mit dem Prädikat „summa cum laude“ ab. Das Thema ihrer
Dissertationsschrift ist „Die Rolle des Landproletariats im
unabhängigen Indien“. Von 1976 bis 1991 war Frau Heidrich zunächst
als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Zentralinstitut für
Geschichte, ab 1986 am Institut für Allgemeine Geschichte, Bereich
Entwicklungsländer, der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR in
Berlin beschäftigt.
Ihre Tätigkeit als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Forschungsschwerpunkt Moderner Orient der Förderungsgesellschaft wissenschaftliche Neuvorhaben mbH nahm Frau Heidrich 1992 auf und setzte sie von 1996 bis Ende 2000 im Rahmen des neu gegründeten Zentrums Moderner Orient (Geisteswissenschaftliche Zentren Berlin e.V.) fort. Ihr Arbeitsgebiet umfasste die Sozialgeschichte des modernen Indien, insbesondere die Agrar- und Bauernproblematik, die Transformation traditioneller Sozialstrukturen sowie soziale und religiöse Reformbewegungen im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. In ihrem letzten Forschungsprojekt am ZMO untersuchte sie die Rolle der Bauernführer Swami Sahajanand Saraswati und N.G. Ranga im spätkolonialen Indien.
